A Safe Space for Children

by Elea Hofman

The pro-life cause is very simply a human rights issue. While it tends to be people of faith that support the movement, there is sound science and logic to support the equlity and value of life in the womb from a secular perspective, hence groups like Athiests for Life, Humanists for Life and so on. That being said, I want to offer encouragement from my personal Christian worldview.

This sunday my Pastor spoke about prayer. We are taught to pray:

"Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven..."

We know that God's will for us is the Kingdom of God here on earth but what does that look like? It's hard to imagine God's will being done here on earth when at every turn our culture seems to turn to death for answers.

Isaiah 11:8-9 tells us that in the Kingdom of God,

"The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra, And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper's den.
They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD As the waters cover the sea."

In the Kingdom of God children are safe. Even the most venomous snake will not harm them. This is what we strive for. We live in a world where children are not safe. They are killed in the womb by their parents, they are attacked outside the womb by violence, distorted teachings, targeted by the porn industry, turned into child soldiers and slave labour...but in the Kingdom of God they are safe, they will be loved and protected and even the most dangerous cannot touch them.

My pastor was not intentionally discussing abortion when he referenced this passage but I was immediately overcome and felt this was God reminding me and us as a movement to stay the course. Know that this IS God's calling on our lives, it IS His will that we would establish His Kingdom here on earth and that means protecting the unborn. It may not always be obvious that we are winning but we are - in fact we've already won because Christ is already victorious. Hold true in that fact and continue...increase...your support and involvement of the pro-life movement knowing that this is the will of the Lord. As a community we ARE that safe space where children are protected in and outside the womb. Let us be the church as God intended. Let us be the voice for the vulnerable. Let us be the safe space in the Kingdom of God where His children can flourish.
